Stop The Quarry

Wakefield Council are proposing leasing over 40 acres of land off Windermere Drive & Hazel Road to be quarried.

Knottingley & Ferrybridge Councillors were notified in September that Wakefield Council was looking to lease 40 acres of land to be quarried at the top of Hazel Road & Windermere Drive on the Warwick estate, Knottingley, for a ten year period.

Your Lib Dem Councillors objected to the Council's proposal, as the quarry site would encroach right up to existing housing and cause a significant impact on the quality of life of residents in the immediate and surrounding area.

Specifically we cited:

  • Long term exposure to dust arising from the quarry
  • Concerns regarding noise and light pollution on neighbouring properties
  • Worries about increased traffic and work vehicles that may access the site and the impact this would have on the local area
  • This would take away relatively little green space and playing fields which exist in the area

Add your name to our petition calling on Wakefield Council to think again and drop plans for the quarry.
