Harrogate and Knaresborough MP: “At long last the Government is starting to listen” as three GP surgeries set to benefit with money for upgrades

Tom Gordon, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has warmly greeted news that three GP surgeries in his constituency are due to benefit from a share of £102 million for upgrades. The three surgeries and Stockwell Road Surgery and Eastgate Medical Group in Knaresborough and Church Avenue Medical Group in Bilton. Each of the surgeries will receive a share of the £102 million.
However, there are still concerns about the future viability of GP surgeries, particularly following the Government’s refusal last year to exempt them from a National Insurance Contributions (NICs) rise.
Commenting, Tom said:
“At long last the Government is starting to listen. I’m pleased to see this announcement, and more support from the Government for our too often overlooked GPs. It’s good to hear that GPs in Harrogate and Knaresborough are going to get this support to upgrade their facilities.
“However, the Government must go further and reverse the NICs rise for GPs and pharmacies. They have had to make considerable cuts as a result, and there is a real risk that the vital community healthcare service they provide collapses.
“I will continue to hold the Government to account for my constituents, and fight for our health services to get all the funding they need so that they can continue to do a brilliant job.”
