Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Calls for Fair GP Funding in Upcoming NHS 10-Year Plan

Tom Gordon, Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has urged the Government to include fair funding for GPs in the NHS 10-year plan, which is expected to be unveiled this Thursday (3rd July).
The Government has said that the long-term plan will outline the future direction of the NHS over the next decade, with a focus on major reforms to modernise the service.
Tom emphasised that securing a fair funding settlement for GPs is essential to improving local healthcare, particularly as the population in Harrogate and Knaresborough is set to continue to grow, with large numbers of houses both being built and planned.
He said a fair funding settlement would allow local GPs to upgrade and expand their services to meet increasing demand. Tom has already been campaigning for the necessary infrastructure – not least new or expanded GP services – to be put in place to ensure that Harrogate and Knaresborough can cope with increased demand.
Commenting, Tom said:
“This 10-year plan must prioritise rebuilding local health services in Harrogate and Knaresborough, with properly funded GP services at its core. The potential impact of that change is monumental.
“After years of neglect by the Conservatives, we can’t afford further delay. Our GPs are under immense pressure and need meaningful support. The Government must act now—transforming local healthcare depends on it. I’ll continue to hold Ministers accountable until we see real action for people in our area.
“Delivering fair GP funding is a vital step towards ensuring that space can be freed up in hospitals whilst ensuring everyone can get the care they need. Our hardworking GPs deserve better, and I’m determined to ensure they get the support they need.
