Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Urges Regulator to Intervene as Royal Mail Misses Delivery Targets

Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, Tom Gordon, has criticised Royal Mail after new figures revealed that only 77.7% of First-Class mail in the HG postcode area was delivered on time- falling significantly short of the 93% target.
This shortfall means that 15.3% of First-Class mail was delivered late, raising concerns over ongoing issues with local postal services.
In response, Tom Gordon MP is calling for stronger oversight and accountability, urging the regulator OFCOM to step in and address what he described as “unacceptable delays” that are impacting residents in Harrogate and Knaresborough.
Tom Gordon MP said:
“These missed targets are deeply concerning and are leaving far too many people in Harrogate and Knaresborough without the timely service they depend on. Reliable deliveries are essential for everyday life, and residents should not be forced to tolerate constant disruption and delay.
“This has gone on long enough. People are quite rightly fed up, and it’s time for OFCOM to take meaningful action and hold Royal Mail to account for its ongoing failings.
“I will keep up the pressure on Royal Mail until residents here receive the standard of service they deserve.”
