Lib Dem MP Condemns Russian Sanctions on UK Parliamentarians

Tom Gordon, Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has tabled a parliamentary motion expressing full support for colleagues targeted in the latest wave of personal sanctions by the Russian Federation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, on 23 April, announced a ban on a number of UK parliamentarians from entering the country in retaliation for their continued support of Ukraine and condemnation of the Kremlin’s aggression.
Mr Gordon has tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament standing in solidarity with those affected and reaffirming the right of MPs and peers to speak out in defence of international law, democracy, and human rights.
Tom Gordon MP said:
“Being sanctioned by an authoritarian regime is not a sign of wrongdoing - I know colleagues see this as a badge of honour.
“I stand with every colleague, irrespective of their political party, who has been named in this latest list.
“The UK Parliament will not be intimidated. We will continue to support Ukraine, challenge Russian disinformation, and uphold the values of freedom and democracy.”
Tom hopes the EDM will highlight cross-party unity in resisting Kremlin intimidation and calls on the UK Government to continue providing strong support to Ukraine while holding the Russian regime accountable.
