Local MP backs Movember’s Young Men’s Mental Health Campaign

This Men’s health week, Tom Gordon, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has thrown his support behind Movember and their campaign to improve men’s health globally. In Parliament on Wednesday, Tom attended their Men’s Health Lounge to show his support.
Movember are one of the largest men’s health charities worldwide, having raised more than £945 million globally.
Tom spoke with the team from Movember about their work, particularly around men’s mental health. They have recently launched a report on Young Men’s Health in the Digital World. Tom discussed the importance of having positive male influence in young men’s lives, to help shape them as young men going into adulthood.
Commenting, Tom said:
“We need to ensure we are setting up our young men for life, not abandoning them to learn everything from social media – or be brought down by it. That’s why I’m backing Movember’s campaign to work with young men and improve their lives and mental health.
“We’re in a mental health crisis, and all too often the effects on young men can be neglected, particularly as there’s such a culture of men being strong and not talking about their feelings. We have to challenge that and help men open up.
“I look forward to continuing to work with Movember to tackle this crisis, and support all our men, young and old, to look after themselves and make sure they get the support they need.”
