Local MP Encourages Schools to Book Free Visits to UK Parliament

Tom Gordon, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, is encouraging schools across the constituency to take advantage of a new opportunity to book free educational visits to the UK Parliament for the autumn term 2025.
From 7th May, schools, home educator groups, and youth organisations will be able to secure places through a newly launched online booking system, which allows teachers to view availability and receive same-day confirmation.
Organised by the UK Parliament’s Education and Engagement Team, these visits offer students a unique chance to explore how democracy works and understand the role of Parliament in everyday life. Trips typically include a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster, alongside interactive workshops.
Tom has written to all local schools to highlight this exciting opportunity and to encourage early registration on the booking portal. Tom sees the programme as a valuable way for young people to experience Parliament first-hand and deepen their understanding of British democracy.
Tom has previously welcomed students from Harrogate High School and Harrogate Grammar School to Westminster, where they had a full tour of Parliament followed by a Q&A with Tom.
In addition to encouraging school visits to Parliament, Tom is continuing his commitment to visiting every school in the constituency to engage with students and staff and listen to how he can support them.
Commenting, Tom said:
‘I’d really encourage schools across Harrogate and Knaresborough to take up this fantastic opportunity to visit Parliament for free this autumn.
‘It’s a brilliant way for students to experience democracy in action and deepen their understanding of how our political system works.
‘It’s been great welcoming students to Westminster in the past – their questions and enthusiasm are always inspiring. It would be fantastic to see even more schools from our area make the trip.’
