Local MP Steps Up Campaign to Save Rotary Wood
Tom Gordon, Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, is stepping up his
campaign to protect Rotary Wood by hosting a community meeting on Friday 7th November
to discuss Harrogate Spring Water’s proposed expansion and the threat it poses to the
woodland.
A vocal opponent of the expansion, Tom is determined to stop Danone, a multinational
corporation from cutting down and taking over this community woodland. The meeting
represents a key stage in the campaign, bringing together local leaders and residents to
discuss the proposals, raise concerns, and agree on the next steps to safeguard Rotary
Wood.
The event comes after North Yorkshire Councillors recently deferred a planning vote on
Danone’s application and follows Harrogate Spring Water’s release of survey data claiming
local support – claims directly contradicted by Tom’s own survey, which shows significant
community opposition.
Between now and the next vote, Tom will work closely with Harlow’s Harrogate Town
Councillor, Graham Dixon, to gather clear evidence of community opposition, ensuring that
public opinion is accurately represented, and Rotary Wood is protected.
Commenting, Tom said:
‘Rotary Wood is a cherished part of our community, and we must do everything we can to
protect it from being lost to a multinational corporation.
‘This meeting is a vital opportunity for local residents to have their say, ask questions, and
ensure their voices are heard.
‘It is essential that the community’s opinion is clear before any decisions are made. I urge
everyone to attend, get involved, and make their voices count – every response strengthens
our case against this expansion.’
