Parliamentary Spotlight on local Children’s Charity Thanks to Tom Gordon MP
Tom Gordon, Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has brought the Great
Start in Life Foundation, part of Harrogate Hospital & Community Charity, to Parliament to
help raise awareness of its vital work supporting the health and wellbeing of children and
young people.
The Foundation’s impact spans from Wakefield in South Yorkshire through North Yorkshire
and across the North East, reaching communities including County Durham, Darlington,
Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Gateshead, and beyond.
The Parliamentary drop-in event, hosted by Tom, gave MPs from across these areas the
opportunity to meet the Foundation’s team, learn about their newly launched services, and
gain deeper insight into the positive impact they’re making on children, young people, and
families.
The Foundation supports young people from birth to 19 by investing in early intervention,
specialist care, and practical support at key moments, ensuring children get the best
possible start in life and the foundations for long-term health and wellbeing.
Commenting, Tom said:
‘The Great Start in Life Foundation is making a real and lasting difference to children and
families, not just in Harrogate, but across North Yorkshire, Darlington, Durham,
Northumberland, and well beyond.
‘It was fantastic to bring their work to Parliament, shine a spotlight on the incredible support
they provide, and involve so many MPs in backing this vital cause.
‘Their commitment to improving young people’s health and wellbeing deserves widespread
recognition, and I’ll continue to champion their efforts both in Westminster and back home,
so they can reach even more families in need.’
