Tom Gordon MP calls for “Transport for Yorkshire” to improve connections across the whole county

Tom Gordon, the Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough spoke in Parliament this week on “Transport for Yorkshire”, a scheme that would cut through administrative boundaries and join up travel policies across the traditional county of Yorkshire. 
 
 
Speaking in the House of Commons, the MP raised the challenges residents face when trying to travel over newer county boundaries with Transport Minister Heidi Alexander.
 
 
The MP and Yorkshire native, spoke about his personal experience of growing up in West Yorkshire whilst attending college in North Yorkshire.
 
 
He proposed a “Transport for Yorkshire” scheme to ensure that mass transit works across county divides and make it easier for residents to get to work and school.

The Minister agreed on the importance of connecting people across administrative boundaries.

Tom said: 
 
“A child shouldn’t struggle to get to school because they cross an invisible administrative boundary. 

“I will keep banging the drum for transport policy that reflects our actual day-to-day lives here in Yorkshire.”
