Tom Gordon, Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has called on the Government to ensure that victims of grooming gangs receive the full support they need and deserve. His call comes in response to the Government’s recent announcement of new funding for local inquiries into the grooming gangs scandal.

While welcoming the move to investigate these serious failings, Tom is urging Ministers to go further—by ensuring proper resources are made available to support victims who may come forward as part of these inquiries.

There is growing concern that without dedicated victim support, these new inquiries risk retraumatising survivors without offering them the care and justice they need.

Commenting, Tom Gordon MP said:

“Following the Government’s announcement of funding for further local inquiries into the grooming gangs scandal, I questioned the Minister on what concrete support will be in place for those who bravely come forward as part of these investigations.

It is absolutely vital that victims—whether children or adults who suffered abuse in the past—are placed at the centre of these processes. Support services must be properly resourced to ensure survivors are not left to suffer in silence.

We cannot allow a repeat of past mistakes, where victims were heard and then forgotten. This time, we must get it right. Victims must be supported every step of the way.”
