Tom Gordon MP secures parliamentary debate on home to school transport

Tom Gordon MP, Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Harrogate and
Knaresborough, has secured a Westminster Hall debate on home to school
transport, which will take place on Thursday 4th June.

During the debate he will focus on recent changes to home to school transport
provision, including the impact on families across North Yorkshire and the growing
concerns raised by parents, carers, and schools about accessibility, eligibility, and
affordability.

The issue has been raised repeatedly with local representatives and campaigners,
with many families reporting increased costs, reduced eligibility, and uncertainty
following changes introduced by North Yorkshire Council.

Tom is encouraging anyone affected by the changes to share their experiences
ahead of the debate.

Tom Gordon MP said:

“I have secured this debate because too many families across Harrogate and
Knaresborough, and more widely across North Yorkshire, are being affected by
changes to home to school transport arrangements. I hope colleagues from across
North Yorkshire will attend and contribute constructively to the discussion, so that the
full impact of these changes can be properly understood.

“I have already been contacted by a significant number of constituents who have
outlined how these changes are affecting their children’s ability to get to school
safely and on time, and the strain it is placing on family budgets. These experiences
matter, and they deserve to be heard at the highest level.

“This debate is an opportunity to highlight those concerns and push for a system that
works for families, not against them.”

He added:

“If you have been affected by changes to home to school transport, I want to hear
from you. Real stories from local families will help strengthen the case for a rethink
and a fairer approach.”
