Tom Gordon, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has spoken in Parliament on the work that Stonefall Cemetery in Harrogate do throughout the year to remember those who died in defence of their country. The Stonefall Cemetery is a Commonwealth war graves site, known for being the resting place of many commonwealth airmen killed during the Second World War. It is the largest Commonwealth war graves Cemetery in the North of England.

Tom spoke during a Victory in Europe (VE) day debate in the House of Commons, commemorating 80 years since Britain, alongside its allies, signed a peace with Germany to end the Second World War in Europe. He spoke about the services that the Stonefall Cemetery puts on to raise awareness and remember those who died.

Commenting, Tom said:

“It’s so vital to remember the sacrifice that so many made during both world wars, and Stonefall Cemetery is a monument to them. It remembers the people of Yorkshire who died, and reminds us of our proud military history, and the continued importance of North Yorkshire especially to the military.

“Stonefall is an important memorial to those who died, and the events and services they put on are important to ensuring that we never forget those we owe our freedom to.”
