Tom Gordon, Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, is inviting young
people aged 10–18 from across the constituency to Discover Democracy – a free, interactive
local event for UK Parliament Week. The session will offer a fun and engaging introduction
to how Parliament works, how decisions are made, and how young people can make their
voices heard.

Attendees will get the chance to quiz Tom directly during a Q&A session, asking about life in
Parliament, how decisions are made, and the issues that matter most to them. The session
will end with an exciting Parliament quiz, challenging participants on politics, history, and the
workings of modern democracy – with prizes up for grabs!

UK Parliament Week is a nationwide event designed to help people better understand how
Parliament operates and how they can get involved. By hosting Discover Democracy, Tom
hopes to inspire the next generation across the constituency to engage with politics, get
involved in their communities, and see how their voices can make a real difference.

Commenting, Tom said:

‘UK Parliament Week is a fantastic opportunity for young people in Harrogate and
Knaresborough to learn more about how Parliament works, the impact it has on everyday
life, and how they can have their say in the issues that matter to them.

‘I want every young person to feel that their voice counts, and that politics isn’t something
distant or closed off to them – that’s why I’m so pleased to be hosting this event.

‘Discover Democracy will be a fun and interactive evening where young people can ask
questions, share ideas, and see how they can make a real difference – I encourage
everyone to sign up and get involved.’
